Arizona & Nevada – Grand Canyon and Vegas

Our drive through Arizona and Nevada was filled with exciting adventures and beautiful sights. One of the highlights was definitely visiting Horseshoe Bend, where we were blown away (literally!) by the strong winds. Despite having to hold onto our hats to keep them from flying away, the view of the campsite below on the water was well worth it.

While in Flagstaff, James decided to treat himself to a new drone, which he couldn’t wait to test out. Unfortunately, the wind proved to be too much for it, and we had to book a hotel room at a casino instead of camping as we had originally planned. Despite the change in plans, we were able to have a great time exploring the casino and trying our luck at the various games.

In addition to our adventures in Horseshoe Bend and at the casino, we also had the opportunity to spend a night at the Grand Canyon. Despite being prepared with warm clothing, we were still caught off guard by just how cold it was. James bravely took on the task of cooking dinner, but we ended up having to eat inside the tent as it was simply too cold to expose our hands to the elements.

The next day, we made a quick stop at the Hoover Dam on our way to Las Vegas. It was an impressive sight, and we were amazed by the sheer size and scale of the structure. Finally, we arrived in Las Vegas, ready to experience all that the city has to offer. While Las Vegas wasn’t really my scene, I was still able to have a good time and try something new. We went exploring to see the Bellagio fountains, the flamingos, the Venetian and all of the other casinos. It was interesting to see the different themes and styles of each casino, and we were surprised to find that smoking was allowed inside some of them.

We also had to do some admin tasks like getting our clothes washed. It’s not exactly the norm for a trip to Vegas, but we are on a longer trip and needed to take care of some practical matters. On our last morning in Las Vegas, we went for a run to see the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. It was a great way to start the day and get some exercise, which is more my style. After a few days in the city, we were ready to move on and head to our next destination: Yosemite National Park.
